Project Title: Fito-klinika for environmental land-use

Acronym: FITO-KLINIKA

Number HURO 0801/001

SUMMARY PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Rationale and background The contribution of agricultural enterprises to the GDP both in Hajdú-Bihar and in Bihor counties is twice as much as the country average. Environmental production systems can be introduced to any enterprise and their advantages can be utilized irrespectively of their size. According to statistics the innovative skill of agricultural enterprises in this region is rather low. In order to manage successfully in the long time environmental production innovations are absolute necessity for small and medium sized farms. These farms (mainly because of lack of human resources) apply information and ecological production standards at a relatively low level. On the other hand environmental pollution and pest damage can occur in either regions (contaminations and pests do not appreciate state borders).
Objectives (general and specific) We plan to set up and to operate the common environment management extension centre as nonprofit service in order to help building up the environmental production systes for the agricultural enterprises in these regions in the long run. Common educational programme and developing process in this proposed project will generate further educational programmes. The common extension service center can be developed according to deands, its activityt can be expanded and can act as a model for similar developments.
Cross-border character and impact The farseeing plan of our common project is to enhance the propagation of environmental production and management system in the eastern/western counties. We plan to create educational programmes, booklets, common toxicological, pesticide and diagnostical databases in Hungarian and Romanian. First common regional toxicological and environment management couse will be organized in Debrecen and in Salard for 30-30 farmers. Hungarian, Romanian and English common WEB-pages will be also created for continous extension service and in order to achieve our aims.
Target groups Our aim is to enhance the environmental land use and efficiency of the small and medium agricultural producers in the above mentioned regions with transmission of the experiences and extension services on pest diagnostic/ plant nutrition and adaptation of up- to-date environmental based production technologies. The propagation of environmental land use and production technologies, reduced pesticede application in these regions not only favourable for farmers but also for consumers and for the local ecological system.
Short summary of the project activities, responsible partners and timeframe Work package 1 (4 month): compilation of educational manuscripts (4-4 themes) in Hungarian and Romanian (TUDKA). To print the revised educational booklets and CD-ROM as a supplement (1200-1200 copies) in Hungarian and Romanian (BIOTERRA) Creation of common, electronical toxicological (2) and diagnostical (4) databases (TUDKA).
Work package 2 (4 month): 40-hour intensive toxicology and environment management courses and examinations for 60 participants (30 Romanian in Salard, 30 Hungarian in Debrecen) (TUDKA and BIOTERRA). Puchase of server computer and accessories (TUDKA).
Work package 3 (4 month): Creation and running of Hungarian, Romanian and English WEB pages (TUDKA). Final conference of the project in Debrecen (for 100 professionals from Hungary and Romania), printing of book of abstracts.(TUDKA and BIOTERRA).

Project results The planned project aims to satisfy real regional demands. Environment-conscisous production systems and environmental land use are widely spread in Western-Europe and in Western-Hungary. The proposed project will be resulted to improve the ecological status of the agricultural lands in the region, reduced pesticide application and improvement of the production of high-quality products and foods.
Sustainability of the project We plan to set up and running a common extension service center (Fito-Klinika) for bio farmers. After completing the education programme, handouts, WEB pages further activities will be organized with minimal costs and the service center gives free electronical advices and professional services for small- and medium sized bio-farms of the region. This service center can act as a model for further developments and national/international projets.
